Kroger Zero Hunger program continues to expand

On Behalf of | Apr 29, 2021 | Uncategorized

An increasing number of business in the United States are becoming more socially conscious as a matter of company policy. This includes large corporations, like grocery store giant Kroger Company. Becoming a more socially conscious enterprise requires a company to take advantage of different provisions of business law in order to accomplish their community-minded objectives.

A look at the Kroger initiatives

Kroger has undertaken a number of socially conscious initiatives over the past several years. Among them are programs designed to ease hunger in the United States. To this end, Kroger established Zero Waste, which it described as a “food recycling” program. Rather than dump perfectly wholesome food into the trash, the company has coordinated efforts at its local stores to get nutritional food into the hands of economically challenged Americans. Each store works with the local community to develop a plan for redistributing the food.

In 2020, Kroger expanded the number of local stores participating in Zero Waste by about 300 markets. By the end of the year, there were 2,285 local grocery stores under the Kroger umbrella participating in the Zero Waste program.

This was not accomplished without satisfying a number of challenges under business law. These included distributing food in a manner that complied with state laws and local ordinances in the many jurisdictions in which Kroger operates grocery stores.

Developing initiatives with legal help

The community-conscious efforts of Kroger underscore the importance of a business having access to experienced legal representation. Not only may a business law attorney aid a company in dealing with regulatory compliance and other issues, but legal representation may further assist a company in leaving a positive mark within the communities in which it operates.
